HAUNTED READING LIST — FALL 2021
AS THE VEIL BETWEEN THIS WORLD AND THE NEXT GROWS THIN AND THE DAYS GET SHORTER, IT’S THE PERFECT TIME TO STAY HOME WITH A GOOD BOOK!
Author Troy Taylor has put together a morbid reading list of new 2021 titles about ghosts, hauntings, and the unexplained for you to peruse during this darkest time of the year. Check them out and support your favorite writers by using the links to add their titles to your winter reading list!
THE HAUNTING OF ALMA FIELDING BY KATE SUMMERSCALE
One of my favorite books of the year (and not just paranormal titles), it explores a poltergeist haunting in the suburban London home of the Fieldings — or does it? This is the true story of the incident and the involvement of psychical researcher Nandor Fodor, who discovers the case is even stranger than it seems. As Fodor begins unraveling Alma’s strange history, he discovers a different and much darker haunting, who is a tale of trauma, loss, and revenge. Highly recommended! BUY HERE!
STRANGE TALES OF THE IMPOSSIBLE BY TOBIAS WAYLAND
Join author and investigator Tobias Wayland (Singular Fortean Society) as he explores unusual phenomena and the commonalities that connect them. From cryptids to UFOs to ghosts and even stranger subjects, he has collected a wide variety of paranormal experiences for your shared investigation within these pages. This goes well beyond his previous title about the mysterious Lake Michigan Mothman and dives deep into parts of the unexplained that most of us have never thought about before. Definitely worth the read! BUY HERE!
PASSPORT TO THE PARANORMAL BY RICH NEWMAN
Every state has its spooky paranormal locations. This book lists 200 haunted hotels, restaurants, bars, museums, and other haunted spaces that you can visit for yourself — including the history and hauntings behind each location. This isn’t his first book of this type, but it’s my favorite so far. What I enjoy so much about it is how it reminds me of the massive HAUNTED PLACES books that Dennis William Hauck was putting out back in the 1990s. Those of us who were around in those days always kept a well-used copy in our vehicles for road trips. This makes a good replacement for those! BUY HERE!
ONE BED OVER: A HOSPITAL HAUNTING BY ALEX MATSUO
If you saw Alex present this story on the TV show Haunted Hospitals, then you’re only getting part of the story. Within these pages, you’ll get all the stuff that was too scary for television! After a horrific brush with death, Alex ended up in a hospital, where she came face-to-face with a spirit that was filled with jealousy and rage and was intent on wreaking havoc on Alex. I have to say that this is an unnerving read and I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a terrifying first-person account! BUY HERE!
CHASING GHOSTS BY MARC HARTZMAN
Ghosts are everywhere—whether you believe in them or not. Every town has its local legends, and countless books, movies, and TV shows are haunted by their presence. But our obsession with ghosts runs deeper than we know—and is embedded in the very fabric of American history. This slick, glossy, well-put-together book is a must-have for those looking for an introduction into the ghost world… but it’s also deceptive in that it’s much more in-depth and well-written than you might expect for what seems to be an introductory title. Give it a try - you won’t be sorry! BUY HERE!
THE FEMININE MACABRE 2:
A WOMAN’S JOURNAL OF ALL THINGS STRANGE AND UNUSUAL
The second edition of the all-female journal — edited and created by Amanda R. Woomer — is here with more essays written by women from all over the world, highlighting their research and theories on witchcraft, hauntings, folklore, dark history, tarot, cryptids, and more. You don’t have to be a woman to love everything about this journal, which delves into topics as varied as haunted places, spooky relics, tarot readings, Ouija boards, spirit communication, vampires, witches, and oh, so much more! Don’t miss a single one of these excellent collections! BUY HERE!
POST MORTEM: FROM THE COLLECTION OF VIRGINIA DE LA CRUZ LICHET
This Spanish title from Titilante Ediciones is one of the most amazing books that you’ll ever add to your collection! Only 1,839 copies of the boxed set were made and are signed by the collector of the photographs and the author of the Spanish and English text — includes deluxe case, velvet bound book, envelope of postmortem prints, memorial card, and In Memoriam ribbon. The text is a heartbreaking look at this kind of family photograph and includes HUNDREDS of photos for anyone with an interest in history, funeral customs, and even the macabre. It IS an investment — but worth every penny! BUY HERE!
“DID YOU HEAR WHAT EDDIE GEIN DONE"?” BY HAROLD SCHECHTER AND ERIC POWELL
No, it’s not paranormal, but when it comes to morbid reading, I couldn’t pass up recommending this one. One of the greats in the field of true crime literature, Harold Schechter teams with award-winning graphic novelist Eric Powell to bring you the tale of one of the most notoriously deranged killers in American history, Ed Gein. It’s a vividly-drawn dramatization of the tragic, psychotic and heartbreaking events in this terrifying case — and I think you’ll love it as much as I did! BUY HERE!
THE MORBID CURIOUS NO. 4 - HALLOWEEN DOUBLE ISSUE FALL 2021
Sorry, I know this is a shameless plug for our own journal, but I wouldn’t recommend it if I didn’t think you’d like it! The fourth issue of the Morbid Curious is the ongoing journal from American Hauntings, bringing you tales of ghosts, hauntings, true crime, and the unexplained from the haunted history of America. This new issue takes you “Among the Spirits” and includes writings from April Slaughter, Amanda R. Woomer, Sylvia Shults, Gina Armstrong, Kari Bergen, and Troy Taylor! Check it out for an almost book-sized issue for Halloween! BUY HERE!
